Venues/Movie Theaters located in D.F.:

Teatro Clandestino

The Teatro Clandestino describes itself as a 'journalistic' theater group. They produce art drawn from headlines and everyday conversations in Mexico. The theater itself is a small, intimate space that probably seated only around 50 people. I saw a production called 'Todos Somos Marcos' by Vicente Leñero, the Artistic Director of the company. Tickets for this show were very hard to come by. A friend of mine got me a ticket. The show was fantastic. The audience did not exactly participate, but they were incorporated into the set and storyline. The actors did not ignore our presence. This is a very innovative sort of theater. I was very lucky to get a ticket while I was in the city. This play was, by far, my favorite experience of the trip.

Cinepolis, Cinemex and Cinemark

These three complexes are scattered all over the city, housing several movie theaters each, all in the American style. They show the latest Hollywood productions, some percentage of Mexican movies, and some of them feature film festival movies and art films. You can buy coffee or sodas, candy or popcorn, pastries or sandwiches, and choose from the wide variety of films and times, everything your heart desires. Each theater has comfortable seats (most reclinable), wide hallways, thx or dolby surround sound, wide screen, and air conditioned.

Auditorio Nacional

It is a modern building, housing different shows and spectacles. Those are ranging from music concerts, performances, theater, and political assemblies. In this case, there were ice rink activities such as ‘Holiday on Ice’, performing a theatrical ice rink play of ‘Monsters Inc.’ of Pixar and Disney.

The show itself could be improved a lot but since it is for the kids, the skaters do what they can and there is no need for them to show off that much. Besides, what else can you do with such big and uncomfortable costumes that mar your capabilities to perform.

The children loved it all the same and weren’t aware the adults weren’t having a blast as they were. We are just waiting to have a different performance here. Maybe it will be an act , or, if my wife is lucky, a music concert!

A Great Opera

A great cultural place. See Ai's great opera - great actors, singers, and music, and be in Bellas Artes, a well worth place to visit.

Casa de Morelos

The Linterna Magica, or Magic Lantern Cinema, used to be highly popular among the residents of San Jeronimo and Unidad Independencia, two neighborhoods that form a vibrant business district to the south of Mexico city. As time passed, this huge cinema was divided into two medium sized auditoriums, with Dolby stereo sound, comfortable seats and a confectionery stall in the foyer.

The sort of films presented are generally of the 'commercial' variety, but occasionally there are short, independent art cinema seasons. Cineclub del Museo José Luis Cuevas

Description

The cinema club located inside the Jose Luis Cuevas museum is dedicated mainly to the projection of films from the so-called New Mexican Cinematography. In the 50s, Mexican movies lived a golden era, which faded during the 60s, when production was reduced to alarmingly low figures, so much so that foreign films ruled the screens. During the 80s, new proposals emerged and now there have been a number of recent productions that have traveled the world, and which have even received awards in renowned festivals. There is only one presentation, at 6pm. Free admission.

Cinema Agustín Lara

This is one of the largest cinemas in the city, and has changed little over the years. During the eighties, at the height of their local popularity, 'three dimensional' films were exhibited here.
